From Global to Local: Accelerating Conservation Action for Sharks and Rays

Shark Conservation Fund

Sharks and rays are facing a global extinction crisis, with over a third of all species threatened and more than 70% of commercially traded species at risk.

Building on recent historic protections under CITES, SCF and its partners will work with national and local governments to turn international commitments into measurable conservation outcomes. The project will strengthen implementation and enforcement of CITES rules, support better management of shark and ray fisheries and advance measures that directly reduce mortality at sea. This includes promoting national protections for the most threatened species and establishing marine protected areas in critical habitats. By translating policy into action on the water, the project aims to secure long-term recovery for sharks and rays and protect the marine ecosystems that depend on them.
