Global Toxic Footprint

Planet Tracker

Chemical pollution from plastics and petrochemical companies poses serious health risks worldwide, yet the true impact is often hidden.

This project by Planet Tracker will assess the ten largest multinational plastics and petrochemical companies across major production regions. Emissions of PFAS, phthalates, dioxins and heavy metals will be translated into health metrics such as Daily Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) to reveal their real-world impact. Companies will be ranked by total harm and toxic intensity,” and findings shared with financial institutions and civil society to drive responsible investment and advocacy, including the UN Global Plastics Treaty. By developing digital tools and scalable benchmarks, the project aims to increase transparency, accountability and safer production practices across the global industry.
