Rapidly build the ocean as a climate change solution

Blue Marine Foundation

Blue Marine has identified evidence gaps in how blue carbon habitats, which include different coastal vegetative ecosystems such as mangroves, saltmarsh, and seagrass, are currently valued. These gaps are stopping policymakers from responsibly protecting these habitats using existing policies. It is also creating a bottleneck between demand for nature-based solutions and supply of marine projects.

Blue Marine wishes to play a catalytic role in addressing these challenges and defining best practice for blue carbon projects, that support biodiversity and local communities. They will deploy new technology into pilot projects to generate ocean climate data and use it to inform policy interventions. Blue Marine has co-founded the UK Blue Carbon Forum, a collaborative group of over sixty research institutions, NGOs and government agencies which will be a key resource in this project.
