Whale & Dolphin Conservation

To successfully mitigate the climate crisis, humanity requires a broad toolkit’ of mechanisms, including evidence-based natural solutions. As a nature-based solution to the climate crisis and ocean health, whales have the potential to absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide.

Whale & Dolphin Conservation (WDC) aims to catalyse our knowledge of whales as ecosystem engineers, and natural allies in maintaining ocean health and tackling the climate crisis. By creating compelling ecological, economic, and societal arguments for the restoration of whale and dolphin populations, they will underpin much-needed sustainable blue finance’ mechanisms and practical conservation that delivers recovery of marine biodiversity. In particular, making whale protection the natural choice for investors seeking to value the broad range of returns from marine conservation through the development of Blue Carbon Credits as a sustainable finance mechanism for protecting those large areas of open ocean which are vital to whales as feeding, breeding areas and migration routes between the two.
