Fighting for improved chemical regulations in the EU & UK
CHEM Trust
The release of harmful synthetic chemicals into our environment has been happening for decades. These chemicals are often used with incomplete safety assessments, and only a few of the most hazardous chemicals have ever been banned.
The primary EU chemicals legislation, REACH, is currently undergoing its most significant revision in 15 years, amidst a coordinated “assault” by the chemicals industry to loosen its controls, undermining the EU’s “gold standard” policy. CHEM Trust aims to ensure that the most protective EU chemical regulations and restrictions on hazardous toxins are maintained and implemented, and that UK legislation, post-Brexit, is as closely aligned to the EU as possible.
By providing science-based policy solutions to the chemical problems in the EU and globally, and producing easy-to-understand, compelling narratives to the broader public, this project will help keep the issue of chemical pollution high on the political agenda, and avoid decision-makers being swayed by the ever-present industry lobbying and political shifts.
