Ending damaging fishing practices
Open Seas Trust
Scotland’s seas have suffered serious harm over the past four decades, since a law banning bottom trawling and scallop dredging from coastal seas was lifted. Scallop dredging is the most damaging form of fishing in the UK, yet it is permitted through 95% of Scotland’s seas and has caused widespread loss of habitats. Open Seas are campaigning to see this impact banned in all but the most resilient areas – using their own field-based research to find places deserving protection and evidence harm.
